Testing fees are charged per dog but more than one person can handle a dog. Dogs which will be worked together must be tested as a team. Examples below.

  • 1 Dog + 1 Handler = $10.00
  • 1 Dog + 2 Handlers = $10.00 (dog will be tested twice)
  • 2 Dogs + 1 Handler = $20.00 (each dog tested once with the same handler)
  • 2 Dogs + 2 Handlers = $20.00 (one dog tested with one handler)
  • 2 Dogs + 1 Handler that will be working as a team = $30 (each dog tested independently, then as a team)

Pre-Entry is encouraged as slots will fill up quickly!!!

Requirements for testing:

  1. Dogs must be a minimum of one year old to be tested
  2. Current rabies certificate MUST be presented
  3. The dog must be healthy (see Registration Requirements listed below)
  4. The handler must be of good character
  5. There is NO minimum age for handlers, but handlers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on visitations and the Registration Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  6. TDI Associate Members and their dog(s) may not visit, be registered by, or be active under the auspices of another Therapy Dog-related visitation program, organization, or group other than TDI
  7. TDI cannot register deaf dogs
  8. The Evaluation begins as soon as the Evaluator is able to observe you and your dog, not only when you are going through the test requirements as a dog/handler team
  9. Potential applicants are NOT required to take any Therapy Dog classes. At the present time, TDI does not offer or sanction any Therapy Dog classes.
  10. If a handler wants to visit with more than one dog at a time, all dogs visiting together must be tested at the same time. The team must go through the entire test and work as one unit. All dogs tested together in a multiple dog test must have passed the TDI Test individually first

Requirements for registration with TDI:

Health Requirements – All TDI Therapy Dogs are required to meet the following health requirements before being registered:

  1. Annual Check-up attested to by your Veterinarian within the past year
  2. Mandatory Rabies Vaccine (1, 2, or 3 YEAR – MUST BE GIVEN BY A VETERINARIAN.
  3. An initial series of core Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus Vaccinations.
  4. A negative Fecal Exam must have been done within the past year.
  5. A negative Heartworm test must have been done with the past year unless there is no heartworm present in the area or if the dog is on preventative medication.

Additional Rules for TDI Testing:

Dogs must be tested on a plain buckle collar or harness. Training collars, training harnesses, halties or any other corrective training devices are not permitted during testing or visiting as a TDI registered Therapy Dog.
